#theplatefund and #allinseattle Partner to Serve Financial Relief to Restaurant Workers

Some of the early participants who helped form the #allinseattle campaign were Howard and Sheri Shultz and the Shultz Family Foundation. They saw a broad need to help Seattleites impacted by COVID-19 and put their energy toward finding solutions. We are excited to announce our partnership with the #theplatefund, a non-profit fund set up by the Shultz Family Foundation to provide relief to restaurant workers facing unexpected financial hardship.

The Plate Fund of Greater Seattle delivers direct and immediate one-time payments of $500 to restaurant and food-service workers who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 related business closure. Many now lack the ability to pay for essential items such as diapers, food, medicine, and other expenses. The fund hopes to “bridge the gap” between workers last paycheck and when they can access their federal stimulus payments and/or unemployment insurance benefits. There are an estimated 100,000 people in this group and they need our help now. This may be the only money they receive for weeks or months.

The fund is accepting tax deductible donations in any amount. To date, over 5,000 applications have been received and over $2 million is on its way to directly help people through this time.

Helping our neighbors – the baristas, the servers, the line cooks and the front and back of the house pros – pay for essential items, is why #allinseattle was created. Now #itsourturntoserve.
