SUMMARY:Making Social Media Accessible for People with Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:Social media platforms are great tools for sharing information directly with consumers\, including COVID-19 guidance that people can use to protect themselves\, their families\, households\, and their communities. However\, if social media content is not accessible or does not take the needs of people with disabilities in mind\, then access to important information is missed. \nIn this webinar\, skilled users of social media with accessibility expertise will discuss the impact of using social media to reach a variety of audiences within the disability community. Previous research has suggested that these social media platforms may have a greater likelihood of being used to share vital health information related to COVID-19. Presenters will also demonstrate how to make shared information more accessible on frequently used platforms such as Facebook\, Twitter\, Snapchat\, Instagram\, and TikTok to reach the largest possible number of people. \nPresenters\nDanny Housley and Tori Hughes\, Tools for Life | Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation | Georgia Tech \nJohn Rempel\, Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation | Georgia Tech \nLearning Objectives\nUpon completion of this webinar\, participants will be able to: \nUnderstand the implications of non-accessible social media platforms for people with disabilities.\nIdentify two (2) obstacles to accessibility people with disabilities face when using social media platforms.\nIdentify three (3) solutions or work arounds for accessibility on social media platforms. \nParticipants in this webinar will qualify for CEUs through the AAC Institute and CRCs through the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC). \n**Registration for this webinar will close one hour before the live webinar at 1 p.m. EST on Wednesday\, January 20.** \nThis webinar will be presented through Zoom\, recorded and archived.
