Part 1: What employers need to know about the Washington Cares Fund

Join us for a briefing about the Washington Cares Fund so that you are aware of your responsibilities as an employer and can share factual information with your employees prior to the program going into effect.

Beginning in 2022, all W-2 employees in Washington State will begin paying a new payroll tax of .58% to fund a new public long-term care (LTC) program, the Washington Cares Fund. Beginning in 2025, the program will begin paying benefits for LTC services to qualifying eligible workers who are disabled and require assistance. Although the taxes are paid by individual employees, nonprofit employers should understand the new program and share information with their employees. Individuals have a one-time only opportunity to opt out of participating in the program by proving that they have private LTC insurance in place by November 1, 2021.
