If you do nothing, you will automatically join the new public LTC program and begin paying a tax withheld from your paycheck in 2022. Join us to learn the pros and cons of opting-out of this tax by purchasing private LTC insurance if it is right for you. This opportunity is available one time only prior to implementation of the program.
Beginning in 2022, all W-2 employees in Washington State will begin paying a new payroll tax of .58% to fund a new public long-term care (LTC) program, the Washington Cares Fund. Beginning in 2025, the program will begin paying benefits for LTC services to qualifying eligible workers who are disabled and require assistance. Although the taxes are paid by individual employees, nonprofit employers should understand the new program and share information with their employees. Individuals have a one-time only opportunity to opt out of participating in the program by proving that they have private LTC insurance in place by November 1, 2021.
Washington Nonprofits has arranged for two briefings to help you and your employees understand the new LTC program. Part 1: What employers need to know about the Washington Cares Fund, is scheduled on June 24, 12-1pm.
